Haiti is back the news—though it has not been for weeks—thanks to the eight-page U.S Senate Report highlighting the lack of progress in the rebuilding process. The report, according to AP, is “meant to give Congress a picture of Haiti today as U.S. legislators consider authorizing $2 billion to support the country’s reconstruction. That picture is grim: Millions displaced from their homes (…) troubling signs that the recovery and longer-term rebuilding activities are flagging” (Katz, 6/21).
Building Back Better Communities is an initiative of the Government of Haiti aiming to develop a prototype housing expo to accelerate development and offer options for the rebuilding of the country. The Request for Proposal, which was put together with the help of the World Bank, The Clinton Foundation and Habitat for Humanity International amongst others, is open to architects, designers and consultants from around the world and deadline for the first phase is 28 June. Don’t delay!
