Tipos latinos is an international network initiative focused on fostering and developing typography in Latin America. it currently has committees and delegates based in 13 countries—Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela—where the biennial exhibition is held simultaneously. Established in 2004—under the name Letras latinas—the Tipos latinos biennial of Latin-American typography also comprises an extensive program of lectures, workshops and guided tours, promoting communication design, typography and cultural exchange among Latin-American professionals.

The call for entries for the fifth biennial is now open. Whilst the typefaces design category can only include designers of latin-american origin, the design categories covering latin-american type uses is open to all nationalities. Deadline is 23 February 2012 for works produced between April 2010 and February 2012. More info on the site.
