I know the content is a bit heavy on moving image these days but I could not fail to feature Terrence Malick’s latest effort. The Tree of Life has been in progress since 2005 and promises to be another epic exploration into the meaning of life on Earth and the conflicting values we are continually faced with. The clash of good and evil is a familiar theme in Malick films and this one, complete with haunting voiceovers, seems to be no exception.
Malick was a Rhodes Scholar and studied, taught and wrote about philosophy before moving into filmmaking. The move to writing and directing his own scripts has clearly allowed him to develop his own language, not only through words but also through the astonishing beauty of his direction and cinematography.

How exciting to know Malick is working on a new film. Thanks for noting it. I’ve always thought of his work as the definition of “moving picture”, since first seeing “Days of Heaven”, a beautiful film from the early 80s.
Thanks Susan. Days of Heaven is one of my favourite films of all time (along with Cassavetes’ Opening Night of course). A master class in film direction & photography IMHO.
